What is Orton-Gillingham?
Referred to as one of the best kept secrets in Special Education, the Orton-Gillingham approach is unparalleled in its ability to help turn struggling readers into competent, fluid and joyful readers.
Created in the 1920’s, The Orton-Gillingham approach has become regarded as the most researched and effective way to help a child with dyslexia understand and develop the building blocks required for fluid reading.
Individualized
After careful assessment, a clear picture is made of your child’s areas of difficulty. Each lesson will be finely tuned to meet his or her particular needs.
Multi-sensory learning
During one-to-one sessions, material is presented using the multiple learning pathways (visual, auditory and kinesthetic).
This brings learning to life and helps with memorizing phonemes, graphemes and syllable patterns.
Repetitive
Individual sessions enables the child to move at the pace that is right for them. This often means we can repeat lessons over and over until mastery.
Direct and structured
Each session is structured in a strategic manner: oral reading, visual recall, blending, spelling, and sight words. New concepts are introduced from simplest to more complex.
